Indiana State Police are taking part in a human trafficking awareness effort this week as part of a nationwide initiative.
The State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is partnering with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance for the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative, running through Friday.
During commercial vehicle roadside inspections, troopers are talking with truck drivers about recognizing signs of human trafficking and sharing educational materials from Truckers Against Trafficking.
Law enforcement officials say commercial drivers are often in locations where trafficking can occur, including truck stops, rest areas, and commercial worksites. They also note that more than forty percent of trafficking cases reported by truck drivers involve minors.
The initiative is part of a larger prevention program aimed at education and awareness across the commercial motor vehicle industry.
Information on recognizing and reporting human trafficking is available through the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.
