Knox County remains under an Orange Travel Watch after officials downgraded the status from a Red Travel Warning at noon today. (TUES 1/27
Emergency Management Director John Streeter says an Orange Watch means travel is still discouraged unless necessary. Snow and ice remain on some roads, especially secondary and rural routes, and drivers are urged to use caution.
Knox County Chief Deputy John Fuller says residents have done a good job staying off the roads, which has helped limit incidents. He reports highways are in good shape, and while some county roads remain snow packed, they are generally drivable. Over the past 24 hours, deputies responded to two property damage crashes and several disabled vehicles, with no injuries reported.
Bitter cold continues across the region as crews work to clear roads from the weekend winter storm. Officials say wind chills remain a concern, particularly during overnight and morning hours, and refreezing is still an issue as temperatures stay low.
Residents are encouraged to limit travel when possible, slow down if driving, and allow road crews room to work.
