The Vincennes Community School Corporation held its second and final public hearing on a proposed secondary school renovation and facilities project.

During Monday night’s meeting, Superintendent Greg Parsley and the district’s legal and financial advisers outlined proposed work at Lincoln High School, Clark Middle School, and other VCSC facilities. Phase one of the project could begin this summer, with bids expected to be considered later this winter or early spring.

The project would be financed through bonds or lease agreements, with total borrowing capped at just over $16 million. District officials estimate the total cost over the life of the financing could reach nearly $59 million.

The school corporation’s debt service tax rate is projected to increase beginning in 2027, rising from about 53 cents per $100 of assessed value to approximately 65 cents.

No public comment was offered during the hearing.

Following the hearing, the school board approved a resolution to move the project forward. Confirmation of the lease agreement and the process of rating and selling the bonds are expected to be discussed at future meetings.
