A 20-year-old Vincennes man will serve the rest of his sentence in prison following a hearing in Knox County Circuit Court.

George Smith had been on work release since April of 2024 after pleading guilty to a Level 5 felony charge of reckless homicide in the shooting death of Hunter Ravellette.

The charge stems from March 31st of 2023, when Indiana State Police and Vincennes Police were called to a home on East Locust Street for a report of a gunshot victim. Police attempted lifesaving measures, but Ravellette was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy later ruled the death a homicide. Smith later turned himself in and was arrested.

During Monday’s hearing, Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan presented witnesses and surveillance video from the work release facility and argued Smith violated the rules of both work release and probation.

Judge Monica Gilmore found those violations were proven and ordered Smith to serve the remainder of his sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction.
