
AES Corporation has agreed to be acquired in a deal valued at about 33 billion dollars.
According to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, a group of domestic and international investors plans to purchase the company for 15 dollars per share. The deal is expected to close in late 2026 or early 2027.
AES is the parent company of AES Indiana, which serves more than 500 thousand customers in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. AES operates a power plant and solar fields in Pike County.

The Indiana Capital Chronicle reports some elected officials have raised concerns about the sale. Congressman André Carson said he is concerned about private firms holding ownership stakes in public utilities. State Representative Cherrish Pryor questioned the timing of the announcement following the end of the legislative session.
Governor Mike Braun said rate reductions would be the primary factor he considers, regardless of ownership.
