An effort is underway to build a children’s bicycle playground in Vincennes.

Fundraising is currently going on for the project be located at Chicago Park.

Organizers say the proposed feature would include a pump track and surrounding dirt riding loop designed for younger riders. The concept is aimed primarily at children up to about age 12 and those using balance bikes.

Jordan Daniels is helping lead the effort to bring the project to the park. He said the idea came after visiting a similar facility in Bentonville, Arkansas, where his children spent time riding on the track.

“My kids absolutely loved it. They even got better just, you know, for two hours they were riding on it,” Daniels said.

Daniels said he contacted the Vincennes Parks Department about the possibility of building a similar space locally. The project later received approval from the city and the Vincennes Parks Board.

Chicago Park was selected as the location for the project. Daniels said the site has some history connected to bicycle riding.

“Apparently there was an old bike track there, I believe late ’70s, early ’80s, somewhere around in there, in that exact same location,” Daniels said.

Organizers estimate the project will cost about $58,000. Daniels said an initial $40,000 donation helped launch the effort, and fundraising is continuing to cover the remaining amount.

If funding is secured, organizers hope the bicycle playground could be installed by summer. Daniels said people interested in donating can contact him at back2health on Hart Street or contribute through a GoFundMe campaign.
