Fifth graders from across Knox County gathered at the Vincennes University P.E. Complex for the annual Knox County Ag Day, an event designed to help students learn more about agriculture and related topics.
Students rotated through a series of stations led by local agencies and organizations. Presentations covered areas such as weather systems, water safety, food safety, powerline safety, and how agricultural products move from farms to consumers.
Purdue Extension Knox County 4-H Youth Development Educator Mitch Waggoner says the event helps connect young people to the role agriculture plays in everyday life.
“And so we want to make sure we continue that educational process with kids, making sure they understand where their food comes from, where, their some of their products come from, and that how important agriculture really is to provide food, on the tables.
Also your vegetable, vegetables, your orange juice, apple juice, your milk, we’re all that really comes from and how important agriculture really is one to Knox County but also to the country.”
The event also includes an evening public session featuring exhibits and a one-dollar pork burger supper from 5 to7 p.m. Thursday.
