Three years ago today, the top story in the region was a deadly tornado that struck Robinson, Illinois, and Sullivan, Indiana.
The tornado developed during a widespread severe weather outbreak and touched down in eastern Illinois before moving into western Indiana on Friday March 31st, 2023.
It traveled more than 40 miles and reached EF-3 intensity, with winds estimated at up to 165 miles per hour.
The storm caused major damage in and around Robinson before crossing the Wabash River and moving into Sullivan, where homes and businesses were destroyed.
Six people were killed in the storm—three in Robinson and three in Sullivan—and 16 others were injured.
In Sullivan, hundreds of structures were damaged or destroyed, leading to a long-term recovery effort.
Local officials and residents continue to mark the anniversary, remembering those who were lost and the rebuilding that has taken place since the storm.
