The Knox County CASA program is planning its annual golf scramble while working on recruiting volunteers.

“We have our 15th annual golf scramble coming up on May 22nd,” said volunteer coordinator Holly Hillenbrand in a recent interview. “We were having some issues with registration, but that has been fixed now, and we do have spots left.”

The program plans for there to be 25 golf teams, sponsorship and individual registrations. According to Hillenbrand, a team is $450 for four people, and individuals wishing to play can register for $100, which includes lunch and a gift.

Hillenbrand said the events held during April involved the promotion of the program related to National Child Abuse Prevention Month and appreciation of the volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Week.

Hillenbrand explained that the program currently needs more volunteers as they are getting ready for a new training period soon.

Knox County currently has 171 open child cases, with 112 children receiving help and 59 on the waiting list. “Currently, we have 12 volunteers that are active,” Hillenbrand stated.
