The Vincennes University Performing Arts Department will host the southwest site of the Indiana Bandmasters Association 2025 All-District Honor Band on Saturday, November 22nd, and Sunday, November 23rd, at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center. Vincennes University is one of ten sites throughout the state that will be hosting this event. The Vincennes site will feature student musicians from nineteen area high schools, including Barr-Reeve, Bloomfield, Boonville, Gibson Southern, Heritage Hills, Loogootee, Mater Dei, Mount Vernon, North Daviess, North Knox, North Posey, Pike Central, Princeton Community, South Knox, Southridge, Tecumseh, Terre Haute West Vigo, Vincennes-Lincoln, and Washington. The 84-piece ensemble, under the direction of guest conductor Mr. Bryen Warfield, will rehearse all day Saturday and part of Sunday, then will present a concert on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST in the Skelton Theatre. Admission to the performance is free, and the public is cordially invited to attend. Doors will open to the public at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Mr. Bryen Warfield is currently pursuing a Doctoral of Arts in Wind Band Conducting and Music Education at Ball State University. He attended Vincennes University and studied with Jason King and Sharon “Susie” Jackson before attending and completing his Bachelor of Music degree in Tuba Performance from the University of Louisville. He earned a Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting at The Ohio State University. Mr. Warfield is a sought-after clinician, adjudicator, and conductor from Indianapolis who has conducted orchestras and bands throughout the United States and Canada. Mr. Warfield specializes in African American classical music, having performed works by many underrepresented composers. Mr. Warfield has assisted and led highly successful band and orchestral programs in Indiana, including Whiteland Community High School, Homestead High School, and Shortridge High School. Under his direction, the Homestead High School Symphony Orchestra was invited to perform as a featured ensemble at the 2020 Indiana Music Educators Association Professional Development Conference, the Homestead Wind Ensemble presented at the 2022 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic with Dr. Dan Tembras from Purdue University – Fort Wayne, and the Homestead Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensembles were invited to perform at the 2023 Music for All National Concert Festival. Mr. Warfield maintains an active career in the pageantry arts as an adjudicator, educator, and clinician for high schools, colleges, and drum corps nationwide. He is the Brass Caption Head of the Sacramento (CA) Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps, and previously worked with the brass teams of the Bluecoats, Santa Clara Vanguard, Columbus Saints, and Cincinnati Tradition.
