The America 250 Revolutionary Lantern Relay is continuing through Southwest Indiana.

The lantern was displayed this month at two area Rotary Club meetings. It was at the Washington Rotary Club on Wednesday, May 13th, and at the Rotary Club of Vincennes on Tuesday, May 19th.

The lantern is part of Indiana’s America 250 celebration. It represents the lights displayed at Boston’s Old North Church on April 18th, 1775. Those signals came ahead of the start of the American Revolution.

Organizers say the goal is to have the lantern visit all Rotary Clubs in Southwest Indiana.

Rotary clubs are also connected to the relay through their long-standing motto of “Service Above Self.” Organizers say that makes them a fitting partner in the effort to honor the country’s past while looking toward future generations.

The regional counties include Knox, Daviess, Martin, Gibson, Pike, Dubois, Posey, Vanderburgh, Warrick, and Spencer.

The relay is connected to the broader America 250 observance, which marks the nation’s 250th anniversary.
