The Good Samaritan Breast Care Center has received a new grant from the Indiana Breast Cancer Awareness Trust to help cover the cost of services for patients without adequate insurance.
The $6,140 award will be used to pay for screening mammograms, diagnostic exams, ultrasounds, breast MRIs and breast biopsies for uninsured and underinsured patients. Hospital officials say the funding is intended to remove financial barriers that can delay early detection and follow-up care.
The trust distributes money raised through sales of Indiana’s breast cancer awareness special group recognition license plate. Since the program began in 2002, more than $7.5 million has been awarded statewide for breast cancer screening, diagnostic and support projects.
Locally, the Breast Care Center has received nearly $165,000 from the trust over the past 19 years.
Patients can contact the Good Samaritan Breast Care Center to determine whether they qualify for financial assistance.
