Registration continues for the Boys and Beyond summer camp through Pace Community Action Agency. The weeklong program will take place June 22 through June 26 in Vincennes.

The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, with lunch provided.

The program is open to boys finishing fourth and fifth grade in Knox, Daviess, Greene, and Sullivan counties. There is no cost to attend, and there are no income requirements.

Pace CEO Tai Blythe said the program was designed to reach boys before they enter middle school and help build skills that may not be covered in the classroom.

“In 2015, we looked at programing and maybe where were some gaps? And we said it would be great if we could offer some type of programing to boys, specifically to boys, before they go to middle school, where, you know, parents are no longer cool and don’t know anything. And it’s all about your peers. So getting the boys in in that late elementary school, teaching them some of the life skills, life skills that they need because schools often don’t have time or the resources to do all of that.”

The camp focuses on hands-on learning and practical life skills, including financial literacy, online safety, teamwork, and basic tasks such as tying a tie and changing a tire.

Male volunteers from the community work alongside staff to lead sessions and serve as role models for participants.

“There’s no cost. No cost. And I don’t say free because it’s obviously not free. The funding is coming from other places.”

Transportation is not provided, but mileage reimbursement may be available for families who qualify.

Applications are due by May 31 and are available through local schools or on the Pace Community Action Agency website.
