A temporary emergency no parking order is now in effect on Second Street between Vigo and Willow Streets in Vincennes. The order, approved by the Board of Works, allows space for escorts of large farm equipment heading into the city.

The need for the restriction stems from ongoing INDOT construction projects, including the closure of Sixth Street, which eliminated other options for routing the oversized vehicles. City Engineer John Sprague told the Board of Public Works on Monday that over the past weekend parked cars created several close calls for farm escorts, prompting the emergency action.

The order is expected to remain in place for several weeks. City officials are working with Rivet Junior-Senior High School and the nearby church to limit disruptions, as both are located along the affected route.

Sprague also noted that a similar restriction may be needed again when work begins on Vigo Street between Sixth and the Memorial Bridge.
