This week marks the 51st anniversary of National EMS Week. On Tuesday, the Knox County Commissioners officially proclaimed it Emergency Medical Services Week in the county.

Good Samaritan EMS Supervisor Joe Millspaugh told commissioners that EMS crews average 500 responses per month, with 280 to 300 of those resulting in transports to Good Samaritan Hospital.

Commissioner Kellie Streeter praised local EMS providers, noting that the service in Knox County has evolved significantly. “We thank you and we’re glad to have quality, world-class staff. The services and run times would blow everyone out of the water. The quality is unbelievable. I’m so proud,” Streeter said.

Good Samaritan has, and is hosting several events this week including Monday’s Community Safety Night and Tuesday’s Emergency Vehicle Operations Course. On Wednesday, EMS and fire personnel are training in a Mobile Simulation Lab. A Stop the Bleed course takes place Thursday, followed by a cookout Friday for EMS and fire staff.

Also on Tuesday, Indiana Governor Mike Braun issued a proclamation recognizing EMS Week across the state.
