A crash investigation is underway after a Friday evening accident in Knox County left a Vincennes man seriously injured.
Deputies say they were called around 7:45 Friday night to North Brocksmith Road for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.
When officers arrived, they found a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu in the front yard of a residence and 31-year-old Brandon Garza lying in the grass nearby.
According to deputies, Garza had injuries consistent with being ejected from the vehicle, including road rash and a severe injury to his ankle. Deputies applied tourniquets at the scene to control bleeding.
Investigators say a passerby who witnessed the crash reported seeing Garza thrown from the vehicle and did not see any passengers inside the car.
Authorities say Garza remained unconscious at the scene before being flown by helicopter to Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville.
Deputies also reported detecting the odor of alcohol on Garza’s breath. Because he was unconscious, investigators say he could not consent to a chemical test, and a state blood draw kit was obtained as evidence.
