Another local government board has elected their leader for 2024.

The Knox County Council had their first meeting of the year on Tuesday and Richard Chattin was unanimously elected President by fellow council members.

Chattin takes over for 2023’s president Harry Nolting….

In council business, the council heard an update from the Health Department.

Council agreed to a request to combine two part time jobs into one creating a new full time position titled Community Health Nurse Outreach Coordinator.

The effort is meant to improve cost savings and work loads in those two former positions which were Administrator and Head Nurse.

County Health Nurse Betty Lankford reported that one of the priorities in 2024 will be promoting STD prevention and treatment programs.

The department will also be providing CPR training to Freshman in local high school health classes.
