Vincennes’ newest park will hold a soft opening on Sunday.
Minooteeni Park is located at 1st and Hart at the north end of the Vincennes Riverwalk.
It’s a project to pay tribute and to honor indigenous people of the region.
Volunteers have been transforming the city property into a park with historical context and there is a lot of work yet to do.
The park is a vision of the local group Wabash Valley Progressives.
Group Treasurer, Jen Holscher says it will likely be a couple of years before all of the amenities in the park are complete.
Some of those include native plants which take time to grow.
Holscher calls Sunday’s event, a park reveal, and it will feature representatives from federally recognized native tribes who’ve been involved with the project since the beginning.
The Minooteeni Park Reveal is at Noon on Sunday
