Several area cities, towns and counties were awarded a portion of over $207 million in Community Crossings Matching Grant Funds.

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation gathered in Brazil at the Clay County Courthouse Wednesday and made the announcement.

The communities submitted applications for funding through a highly competitive call for projects back in January.

Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge matching grant fund.

INDOT will match up $1.5 million per award.  Community matching funds are based on population.

For counties with fifty thousand people or less and cities and towns with under ten thousand, the match is 75/25.

For counties and cities above those population the match is 50/50.

Counties receiving funds in this round included:

*Knox County $1,500,000.00

*Gibson County $1,500,000.00

*Pike County $1,498,570.65

*Sullivan County $1,500,000.00

Area cities and towns getting the matching dollars were:

*Washington $224,298.69

*Shoals $235,837.50

*Loogootee $1,455,930.75
