A man convicted of child molesting in Knox County has been sentenced to 100 years.

34-year-old William Lee Wayne Cummings was convicted last month in a two day trial in Knox Circuit Court.

The jury deliberated 35 minutes before returning from deliberations with a guilty verdict for two counts involving a child who was six years old at the time of the first crime.

Judge Monica Gilmore handed down the sentence on Monday.

Knox County Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan tried the case and argued at sentencing.

He says he’s aware that such lengthy sentences do little for a specific victim but they do protect other victims and let the community see that protection of children is the ultimate goal.
