Two EF-2 tornadoes tore through south-central Indiana over the weekend, leaving behind a path of destruction that killed one person, injured several others, and damaged popular outdoor sites.
In Greene County, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down Friday near Linton, where a tree fell onto a vehicle. The driver was identified as 33-year-old Allison L. McCammon of Dugger, who died at the scene. Three children were also in the vehicle; one remains in critical condition. Officials say the incident occurred as the tornado moved through the western part of the county.
A second EF-2 tornado damaged areas of Monroe and Brown counties, including Brown County State Park. Flying debris in the park’s horse campground killed one horse and injured another, according to the Department of Natural Resources. Three campers sustained minor injuries. The campground and trails are now closed until further notice.
In response, Greene County has opened a multi-agency assistance center at the former National Guard Armory in Linton. Open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the site is accepting donations and offering recovery services. Counseling is also available at the Linton Assembly of God Church. Residents can report storm damage by calling 2-1-1.
