Vincennes University has partnered with 3M to expand hands-on technical training for Indiana high school students through a $178,000 grant. The funding provides 10 new Mechatronics trainers for the Area 31 Career Center, giving students real-world experience in manufacturing, automation, and engineering.
Developed by Festo, the trainers mirror equipment used in modern factories. The grant also funds certified instructor training.
“This is a game-changer,” said Area 31 instructor James Duddleston. “Students are working on the same systems they’ll use in the field.”
VU leaders say the partnership helps close the skills gap and prepares students for high-demand, high-wage careers.
