investigation

The Washington Police Department is investigating two vandalism incidents that occurred late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning at the same Vine Street residence.

Officers first responded around 11:10 p.m., Tuesday after receiving a report of a window being shot out. A description of the suspect vehicle was provided, but officers were unable to locate the vehicle or any suspects at that time.

At approximately 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, police were called back to the residence after another window was damaged by an object thrown at it. Officers found a vehicle matching the earlier description crashed into a tree in Oak Grove Cemetery. No one was found inside, and an extensive search of the area did not lead to any arrests.

A Washington Police Department detective joined the investigation. The weapon used in the first incident was identified as an air rifle, which has been seized. The suspect has been identified as a juvenile, and no further information will be released.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information or security camera footage from the area during the incidents is asked to contact Washington Police.

The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.
