A person was found dead in an early morning house fire while five others were injured.

Fire crews were called to the 500 block of North 4th Street in Vincennes at 5:33 a.m. and arrived to find the home filled with heavy smoke. Firefighters were told someone was still inside and began a search and rescue operation. One individual was found dead inside.

Five other people were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released.

The Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Vincennes Township Fire Department assisted at the scene, and all fire units cleared shortly after 9 a.m.

Vincennes Fire Department officials expressed condolences to the family and thanked emergency partners for their support.
