The Knox County Coroner’s Office has identified the person found dead in Tuesday morning’s house fire in Vincennes.

Gerald Lewis Henigsmith, who would’ve been 87 this Thursday, June 19, was pronounced dead at the scene just after 6 a.m. The fire happened at 504 North 4th Street around 5:30 a.m.

Authorities say the cause and manner of death are still under investigation and will depend on autopsy results and additional findings.

The coroner’s office is working with local law enforcement and state fire officials. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Five other people were injured in the blaze.  Fire Chief Brett Bobe said four were treated and released at Good Samaritan in Vincennes while another was being treated for severe burns at Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis.
