A Knox County man faces felony charges following a UTV crash that injured a passenger over the weekend.

Deputies responded to South Hoods Road around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday and found a Yamaha side-by-side overturned in a cornfield. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Jared Cummins, allegedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.

In a news release, Knox County  Chief Deputy John Fuller says Cummins failed field sobriety tests and refused additional testing, prompting a warrant for a blood draw. Preliminary results indicated a blood alcohol content of .277—more than three times the legal limit.

The passenger, 24-year-old Dawson Foster, sustained an open fracture to his left knee and was awaiting emergency orthopedic surgery.

Cummins was booked into the Knox County Jail for operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony. As of this morning he was being held on a $10,000 bond.
