INDOT is seeking public input as it updates the Indiana State Rail Plan.

The plan outlines the state’s vision for passenger and freight rail, identifies current conditions, and sets priorities for the coming years.

Goals include improving safety, supporting economic development, reducing rail bottlenecks, and expanding access to environmentally friendly transportation. While INDOT doesn’t operate rail lines, federal law requires the agency to maintain a rail plan.

Hoosiers can share feedback on topics such as passenger and freight service, safety improvements, and long-term objectives through an online survey.

The survey closes September 10, 2025.
