Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner is taking on an expanded role.
Jenner will also serve as Indiana’s Commissioner for Higher Education beginning October 11, after receiving unanimous approval from the state’s 14-member commission.
Jenner has led Indiana’s K-12 schools for nearly five years and will continue in that position. Governor Mike Braun says combining oversight of elementary, secondary and higher education under one leader is meant to streamline operations, improve accountability, and create smoother pathways for students.
Jenner will succeed Commissioner Chris Lowery, who announced his resignation last month. She says her priorities include expanding opportunities for students to earn college credit and career credentials while still in high school.
Jenner’s salary will remain the same at $275,000 per year.
