The two-day Future Healers Camp wrapped up Tuesday. It’s a partnership between Vincennes University and Good Samaritan, giving students entering grades seven through ten hands-on experience in health-related fields.

On Monday, participants explored career options at VU—trying activities in nursing, pharmacy tech, physical therapy, and health information management. Tuesday, the camp moved to Good Samaritan for simulation training, where students put their new skills to the test in real-world scenarios.

“It’s very important to make students aware of the different options for healthcare so that they can find something that is comfortable for them,” said Stephanie Garrett, Program Director for the LPN to BSN Program at Vincennes University. “We like to show them that there’s different career paths if they’re not interested in working directly with patients but still like medical things. They can go through health information management. If they like to do a lot of the physical activity, they can work with PTA. So it’s very important because that will help them be successful.”

Organizers say the goal is to introduce young people to local education and career pathways in healthcare by starting early.
