The Pike County Prosecutor’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for killing a family’s pet beagle near Hazleton.

The dog, named Paige, went missing on April 29. Her body was found a week later on May 6 in a remote area of the family’s property, about half a mile southeast of County Roads 350 North and 975 West. A necropsy revealed Paige had been shot in the head with a shotgun.

Indiana Conservation Officer Matthew Clark has led the investigation. Although a search warrant was obtained to access Google geolocation data for the area, no devices were detected in the vicinity during the probable time frame.

Chief Deputy Prosecutor Sara Stephens says incident occurred during Indiana’s wild turkey firearm season, and officials say they hope it was an accident — but that cannot be confirmed without identifying the person involved.

Stephens added that the killing a domestic animal is a Level 6 felony in the State of Indiana.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Officer Clark at 317-617-2519. Reports may be made anonymously.
