The Bicknell Heritage Days Festival kicks off tonight at North Knox Primary with opening ceremonies starting at 7 p.m. The evening will include the crowning of Miss Bicknell and her court, the announcement of the city’s Man and Woman of the Year, recognition of the parade marshal, and winners of the mini king and queen contest.

Friday’s activities move to Southside Park, where food trucks and drinks will be available. The Alexia Caballero Group is scheduled to perform from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

A full weekend of events follows. Saturday will feature a pancake breakfast, car show, baseball tournaments, and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. On Sunday, a community worship service will be held at 10 a.m. at North Knox Primary, followed by a community picnic at the fire station.

Monday’s events begin with the FCA run at 8 a.m. and the annual Labor Day parade at noon, traveling from 10th Street down Main to Southside Park.

Mayor Thomas Eastabrook said the festival is an important tradition for the community. “So this is our annual reminder of what it is like to be from Bicknell. A lot of these events go back many years. Even some go back to as far as our original Labor Day celebration, which was in 1969 during the city’s centennial. And so that gives us a reminder of where we’ve come from and where we’re going and why these things are important,” Eastabrook said.
