Sentencing is set for September 29th for Jeffrey L. Jackson of Vincennes, who was found guilty of domestic battery in the presence of a child.
A Knox County Circuit Court jury returned the verdict Wednesday after a two-day trial and officials say Jackson then admitted he had a prior domestic battery conviction with the same victim. That prior conviction raises the current charge to a Level 5 felony.
Prosecutor Dirk Carnahan presented the State’s case. He says these trials can be challenging when survivors hesitate to testify. In this case, a 15-year-old child was called to the stand. He thanked the jury for their service.
Carnahan added his office remains committed to ending domestic violence. For more on that, check our web series Beyond the Headlines featuring an interview with Carnahan on domestic violence awareness and prosecution.
