The Vincennes Community School Corporation will soon solicit applications for a new elementary school principal.

Monday night the school board approved a transfer of Vigo Elementary Principal Kelly McCarty to be Director of the yet to be opened  Early Childhood Education Center.

The school system plans to open the center in August of next year and continue to serve 4 year old students but expand to serve age 3 students as well.

The center will be located off site from the current school property.

To get ready for the center, school officials said it was necessary to approve the transition of McCarty to the center even though the move won’t take place until next school year.

McCarty has been principal at Vigo since 2005 and after this year will be one of the corporation’s longest tenured administrators.

Prior to being at Vigo, McCarty was principal at Washington elementary.

She was recently recognized by the Indiana Association of School Principals for her 25 years as being a building administrator and serving as the lead principal.
