The Knox County Sheriff’s office says beware of a scam.

The department warns that calls are being made from someone claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Department and the caller asks for money.

The caller even called a deputy and when the officer identified himself, they quickly hung up.

The Sheriff’s  office  says it doesn’t call and ask for money at any time and doesn’t collect fees or fines that may be owed and they won’t call and make threats if you don’t pay.

Also beware that scammers can spoof official law enforcement phone numbers.

Residents are advised to report any calls they may receive to 812-882-7660.
