Volunteer fire departments in the region continue to struggle with a shortage of members.

The Vincennes Township  Fire Department is hosting an event this summer to engage interest in the job either as a volunteer or full time firefighter.

Sign ups are underway for a Junior Firefighter Camp.

It’s for Junior High and High School students who are 13 to 16 years old.

The participants will gain some hands on experience with live fire, a smokehouse, a combat challenge and car demo.

Attendees can also learn about how to join junior firefighter programs in the area.

The camp is June 7th from 8 to 4 at the Highland Woods Pavillion in Vincennes.
