court-1-3

It was In November of last year, when the South Knox School Board voted to void Coach David Burkett’s coaching contract.

Burkett had been suspended by the IHSAA for two seasons for alleged multiple violations of the limited contact rule.

Burkett appealed the decision but was denied.

In a lawsuit filed in Knox Circuit Court on February 16th, Burkett is asking for an expedited judicial review and reversal of the IHSAA commissioner’s decision and punishment.

According to court documents, Burkett claims that the decision and punishment were not a fair or logical interpretation of the IHSAA’s own rules and not in accord with Indiana law.

It also requests declaratory judgments that his suspension is illegal and in disregard of the facts.

The suit goes on to say that if the court cannot provide an expedited review that he be granted an injunction of the suspension before the 2024-25 school year so he can seek coaching opportunities.

Burkett is being represented by attorney Cole Kirchoff. No other action has been taken at this time.
